1896: The recent rains have made the roads uneven. The return trip took place on Tuesday in 10 hours. They used their bicycle knives to measure the distance from Flagstaff to key points along Canyon Road. Signposts are set up at these points. The road between this place and the canyon will be brought into good condition for the August bike tour.
The ice caves south of Flagstaff are one of the attractions that get a lot of attention from our summer guests. It is the only known ice cave in the area, and the novelty of viewing a huge amount of natural ice in midsummer cannot be resisted by visitors from the warmer parts of the area.

1921: The best amateur boxing show ever held in Flagstaff; he’s posted for next Tuesday at the Orpheum. Baseball team manager Charlie Clark, who arranged the program, decided to hold the show on a weekday instead of a Sunday, as first announced. The proceeds will go to the baseball team. The Sun is proud of our team and hopes that Mr. Clark’s novel method of fundraising will be successful. But aside from wanting to help the team, Flagstaff people will do well to attend this show because it is sure to be exciting and interesting.

There has been little to no improvement in the timber situation, although both the Arizona Lumber and Timber Company and the Flagstaff Lumber Company are still operating, despite feeling like they were about to close earlier this year. There is very little market for their production, most of which is stored in their yards. Although there has been some revitalization of the building in the east, it is not spreading to the west. The vice president and manager of the Arizona Lumber and Timber Company said that given the advanced season, he doesn’t think there will be any real revival in construction until next spring. If demand doesn’t pick up again soon, both Flagstaff plants will likely close within a few weeks.
