Fundraising page set up for the family of the Quincy boy who was killed in a collision
QUINCY – A GoFundMe account was set up for the family of an 8-year-old Quincy boy who was killed in a car accident on April 2nd near Santa Nella, California.
The boy identified as Angel was a passenger in a car driven by his mother, Guillermina Gonzalez, 30, of Quincy, according to the GoFundMe site and information from the California Highway Patrol and the Merced Sun-Star.
Gonzalez was driving south on Interstate 5 around 8 p.m. on April 2 when she lost control of the car and drove into the median. She drove through the median and in the northbound lanes on the path of an SUV driven by Luis Castillo, 37, of Oakland, California.
Castillo’s car hit the right side of Gonzalez’s car, and her car pulled off the shoulder, heading north, before calming off the road.
The 8-year-old was sitting in the rear right of the vehicle and suffered fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 5-year-old boy and 2-year-old girl also drove in the back of Gonzalez’s car and were ejected. Both suffered serious injuries, according to a CHP publication.
Gonzalez was also injured in the crash, the CHP press release said. Castillo and a passenger in his car, Maria Ruiz, 42, from Oakland, suffered minor injuries.
“Angel was an amazing little boy, kind, loving, caring, always smiling, and ready to help others,” wrote Itzel Valle, who organized the fundraiser.
As of Sunday, people donated $ 2,375. People can donate at https://www.gofundme.com/f/funeral-and-medical-expenses-for-little-angel?qid=6ce277e057482ef33ef90a531f1cba9b.
