Girls Hoops: Page rolls past Hillwood into region 6AAA semis | Arrington
Five different Lady Patriots scored double points and a stifling defense forced 32 sales as Page reached the semi-finals of the Region 6AAA basketball tournament Friday night with a 77:21 home win over a seedy Hillwood squad.
McKenzie Cochran (14 points), Abigail Ward (13 points), Sadie Porter (12 points), Mary Claire Pike (11 points) and Braley Bushman (11 points) led the offensive fire, with every player on the active squad.
“You can learn something from every game you play and we focus on execution in every game we play,” said Lady Patriot coach Ron Brockman. Overall, I thought we did a pretty decent job. “
That was an understatement, at least for the first half. Page took the lead 44: 9 during the break and shot 76.2% (16: 21) out of the two-point range.
“When we’re hot, all of these girls can shoot and play the game. It’s kind of contagious when you hit one or two, everyone starts hitting. Luckily we met a couple early. “
Fighting a stifling press defense, the Lady Hilltoppers did not give up, though their lack of time on the hardwood was evident from the start. As part of the Metro Nashville Public Schools, Hillwood had only been able to train for about four weeks and ended the season in her seventh game.
Brock was impressed by the strength of the opposition.
“You are a young team. The trainer does a great job. You haven’t been to the gym much. I know what it feels like to not have a summer to build a team and then not have a season and they are still expected to come and play. It’s just a difficult job. I give them a lot of credit for coming out and playing hard. “
Kiyan Starks led the Lady ‘Toppers with eight points.
The win sets up a rematch to last year’s Region Semi-Finals as Page will host Hillsboro, a 54:47 summit winner, at 7 p.m. on Monday night. The Lady Patriots ended the Lady Burros 2020 season with an 82:52 win.
“It’s the same scenario as last year. They probably have bad taste in their mouths because we had a nice game against them last year. I think we scored 80 points against them last year. They are much improved and that won’t happen this year. “
