Tucson, Arizona (KGUN) – Tucson is no exception as gun violence increases in cities across the country. A unit at the Tucson Police Department is dedicated to solving any crime.
“We perform on site. I usually sort by the number of witnesses, the number of suspects in custody. Do I have to issue a search warrant, ”said Sergeant Ben Soltero.
The unit arrives at the scene after the first responder. They use information from the relevant police officers to connect crime scenes.
When they connect crime scenes, they collect different types of evidence. This usually includes guns, shell casings, DNA, and available digital evidence. These can be surveillance cameras, cell phone data, and Wi-Fi towers.
“Everything leaves a digital fingerprint,” said Soltero.
During this process, they need to capture every aspect of the crime scene to get the big picture when the case is brought to court.
“It’s important to show the scene as it is,” says Soltero.
