It’s a bank holiday weekend, but it’s also a weekend on the first Friday. On July 2nd, the FF lineup ranges from live painting in a Melrose gallery to a celebration by Frida Kahlo in a Miracle Mile art studio. Several venues still require masks, so be prepared just in case.
Exposed studio & gallery
On the first Friday between 5pm and 8pm, visit the Exposed Studio & Gallery in the Melrose neighborhood to explore works by Aaron Allen Marner, an artist whose work includes mostly figurative paintings on canvas, wood, and metal. He will be doing live painting in the gallery that evening.

For her solo exhibition “Hold Over Flow”, Eye Lounge collective member Susan Allred shows fiber vessels that serve as “metaphors for receptivity, holding on and letting go”. To create these works, the artist used traditional tailoring and quilting techniques, as well as her own style of handicraft. The opening times on the first Friday are from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Five15 Arts at Chartreuse is hosting a group show called “Plus One,” which features works by members of the Five15 Arts collective as well as artists they’ve invited to show with them – including Christine Cassano, Monica-Gisel Crespo, Jeff Falk, and Farraday Newsome. The opening times on the first Friday are from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The Heard Museum has free entry on the first Friday from 4pm to 8pm when you can explore a variety of ongoing and rotating exhibits, including “Leon Polk Smith: Hiding in Plain Sight” and “All at Once: The Gift of Navajo Weaving” . . ”The Museum’s Coffee Cantina and Books & More souvenir shop are open from 5pm to 7pm.

Ten artists who are part of the Phoenix Fridas art collective are performing at the Mucho Mas Art Studio during a celebration by Mexican artist Frida Kahlo, which takes place on the first Friday from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The free event also includes readings and anecdotes about Kahlo’s life and artwork, and visitors can also purchase artist-made goods.

Visit Nurture House to discover creative offerings from Palabras Bilingual Bookstore, Wasted Ink Zine Distro, Pachanga Press, Abalone Mountain Press and Por Vida Bakery. You will see works by the artist Jeff Slim and enjoy the soundtrack of the evening by DJ Tam Taco. The opening times on the first Friday are 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The Phoenix Art Museum is free admission from 3pm to 7pm on the first Friday when you can see “Ann Morton: The Violet Protest,” an exhibition that includes textile works by parishioners across the country to promote unity and bipartisan collaboration . If you want to explore the exhibition “Fearless Fashion: Rudi Gernreich” you have to get a ticket worth 5 US dollars.

Visit The Lodge Art Studio to see works by artists Fausto Fernandez, Rafael Navarro, and Charmagne Vasquez. Fernandez is a mixed media collage artist whose work is in part inspired by “mathematical equations, technology, cultural preservation, and mythology”. Navarro works in different media, often inspired by music and nature. Vasquez creates surreal paintings and assemblages on canvas and paper. The opening times on the first Friday are from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
