How to see 70 dinosaurs

More than 100 million years after Sonorasaurus and Dilophosaurus roamed Arizona, the Metro Phoenix families will be able to come face-to-face with dinosaurs when they return for a brief period this month in a drive-thru event.

Jurassic Quest opens on Friday August 27th in Glendale with more than 70 “moving and roaring” animatronic dinosaurs in the Gila River Arena. Prehistoric stars include the Tyrannosaurus Rex, Spinosaurus, and Triceratops.

The transit takes about an hour and includes an audio tour that you can access on your smartphone. Entry is time-limited with one-hour slots and must be purchased in advance on the event website.

Rebooking and refunds are not possible unless the event is canceled. There is a 10% discount for police, military, medical personnel and first aiders who present valid ID.

What to expect at Jurassic Quest Drive-Thru

Animatronic dinosaurs “from the largest predators to playful baby dinosaurs” will be on display in the Gila River Arena parking lot, according to an announcement for the event. The highlights include:

  • A “huge grinning megalodon”, a huge jackfish shark.
  • A 50 foot Spinosaurus.
  • Interactive baby dinosaurs.
  • A free souvenir photo.

Jurassic Quest “worked in partnership with leading paleontologists to ensure that every dinosaur was carefully recreated in every detail, from coloration to tooth size to textured skin, fur or feathers,” said a press release.

According to the Jurassic Quest website, all employees are required to wear masks and maintain social distance, and guests should wear face covers outside of their vehicles.

Last year the Dinosaur Drive-Thru, a walking attraction featuring 60 animatronic dinosaurs, took place at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park on the Gila River Reservation near Chandler. See these photos below.
