Internationally renowned physician researcher joins Phoenix Children’s at the University of Arizona College of Medicine

Dr. Goldman, who will take up his post on April 1stis an internationally recognized pediatric oncologist and physician-researcher whose appointment is part of a long-term strategic effort to strengthen Phoenix Children’s research program, provide bedside treatments to healthcare patients, and enhance its world-class clinical programs.

Dr. Goldman’s mission is to grow a robust research and education company in one of the fastest growing markets in the country and to recruit the best talent in the country. He will lead a research program consisting of 700 studies, 640 researchers and 90 research staff including scientists, staff, biostatisticians, pharmacists, nurses, coordinators and assistants.

In his role he was head of the Child Health Laboratory Department University of Arizona Medical College – PhoenixDr. Goldman and his team will focus on translational research in all areas of child and family health to improve clinical care, advance new therapies for common and rare childhood diseases, and improve children’s emotional, educational and cognitive wellbeing.

In addition to his work on advancing the research agenda, Dr. Goldman maintain and expand the academic mission of both organizations, which currently educate, educate, and train more than 113 residents and 63 fellows.

Dr. Goldman comes to Phoenix after a 23-year tenure at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, formerly known as Children’s Memorial Hospital, and Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine, where he was the director of hematology-oncology, neuro-oncology, and stem cell transplantation; was named Meryl Suzanne Weiss Distinguished Professor of Hematology, Oncology and Stem Cell Transplantation; and served as a professor of pediatrics.

As an accomplished leader in brain tumor research, his contributions are important to the medical and scientific communities. Dr. Goldman has published more than 150 journal articles and has held leadership positions with the Children’s Oncology Group. He is a member of the National Cancer Institute’s Steering Committee on Brain Malignancies and a member of several committees of the American Society for Pediatric Hematology Oncology. In recent years, Dr. Goldman’s research on new therapies for childhood brain tumors, including diffuse midline gliomas.

He’s also the recipient of dozens of awards, including Loyola University 2020 Stritch School of Medicine Alumni of the Year for excellence in research and innovation, the Pioneer Award from the Children’s Brain Tumor Foundation for outstanding contributions in pediatric neuro-oncology and brain tumor research University of Chicago Martin Luther King Jr. Humanitarian Prize. He is featured regularly in America’s Top Doctors, America’s Top Doctors for Cancer, and in the annual Top Doctors editions of Chicago Magazine.

This research is expected to be carried out under the direction of Dr. Goldman increases significantly. To the earlier hospital appointments of Dr. Goldman owns the Children’s Memorial Research Center, Children’s Memorial Hospital, and Wyler Children’s Hospital. He received his medical degree from Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine and completed his internship, residency and fellowship at the University of Chicago Hospitals.
