Jan 29 | International Philanthropic Leader to Hosts Multiple Speaking Events in Phoenix
Tom Eggum, founding president of Hope 4 Kids International, a Christian, non-profit organization that works to restore dignity to children and families who are suffering through extreme poverty and disease, will host several speaking events in Phoenix this January and February, as part of his 2023 Hope 4 Kids International Sunday series.
In his Hope 4 Kids International Sunday series, Eggum shares the importance of making a meaningful, impactful difference in the world, while paying special homage to the nonprofit’s 50 years of service. The schedule is as follows:
Sunday, Jan 29
- Light of the Desert Lutheran Church
- Service starting at 9:30 am
Saturday, Feb 11
- Community of Grace Lutheran Church
- Service starting at 5 p.m
Sunday, Feb 12
- Community of Grace Lutheran Church
- Services starting at 9 am and 10:30 am
Eggum also wants to share his story and passion for international humanitarianism, which began with a daring adventure in Soviet Russia where he was arrested and blacklisted by the KGB for smuggling bibles. The experience inspired him to deliver contraband medicine, antibiotics, clothes and shoes to other communist territories, and ultimately led him to establish Hope 4 Kids International in 1973 with Phoenix as the nonprofit’s headquarters.
“I’m excited to return to Arizona and speak to the congregations I respect dearly,” said Eggum. “The efforts of our partner churches are inspirational, and their work sharing God’s love in their communities and with their neighbors is truly admirable. Hope 4 Kids International has a deep history rooted in Arizona and we are thrilled to start 2023 where it all started 50 years ago.”
For half a century, Eggum has devoted his life to making a difference for children and communities around the world that have been suffering from extreme poverty and disease through access to clean water wells, child educational sponsorship, village development, and short-term mission trips .
The non-profit sponsors over 3,000 orphans and vulnerable children from Uganda, Philippines, Guatemala, and Romania and offers child sponsors multiple opportunities to travel to meet their sponsored child. The most prominent projects are in Uganda, where Hope 4 Kids International has been developing communities by drilling deep-water boreholes, building churches, schools and medical clinics. Through their Water 4 Kids International division, Hope 4 Kids International has celebrated the opening of 981 boreholes, bringing fresh safe water to over three million people.
Eggum added, “I hope anyone who attends leaves these services reflective and thinking about how to make a difference in their world – whether the result is to start helping a neighbor care for their yard, or volunteer at a local community organization, or join Hope 4 Kids International for a mission trip.”
