TUCSON, Ariz. (jimmiepride.com) – The University of Jamestown softball team split the first two games of its Arizona trip on Sunday, losing 13-7 to Aquinas (Mich.) College and winning 8-7 over Roosevelt (Ill.) University.

Aquinas 13, UJ 7

Nine runs over the final two innings proved to be the difference as Aquinas defeated Jamestown in Sunday’s opener.

The Jimmies trailed 4-3 going into the bottom of the fifth, but Aquinas scored six times to push their lead to 10-3.

Steph Cota (JR/Tucson, Ariz.)’s two-run single and Ally Battistoni (FR/Elizabeth, Colo.)’s RBI single brought UJ within 10-6 going into the bottom of the sixth, but the Saints countered with three runs of their own.

Battistoni, Megan Neiles (SO/Winnipeg, MB), and Katie Reisdorfer (SR/Fresno, Calif.) all had two hits. Reisdorfer and Santina Zito (JR/Boise, Idaho) both doubled, and five other Jimmies joined Cota in driving home runs.

UJ 8, Roosevelt 7

Back-to-back solo home runs by Reisdorfer and Katie Merchant (JR/South Haven, Minn.) and a bases-clearing double by Sunny Halsey (FR/Honolulu, Hawaii) accounted for the Jimmies’ scoring in the bottom of the sixth as the Jimmies earned a comeback win against Roosevelt University in Sunday’s second game.

Jamestown trailed 5-0 going into the bottom of the third, but Megan Neiles and Halsey drove in runs to get the Jimmies on the board.

Molly Haley (SO/Atwater, Calif.) singled in another run in the bottom of the fifth, but Roosevelt answered with a run in the top half of the sixth.

In the top of the seventh, Roosevelt used a pair of walks and a single to score once to make it a one-run game, but Jamestown was able to end the threat.

Neiles and Halsey both went 4-for-4 as the Jimmies finished with 14 hits. Maddy Zander (FR/Bismarck, ND) earned the win in the circle.

Jamestown (8-3) plays Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) at 11 am and Saint Francis (Ill.) at 1:15 pm on Monday.
