Kit Helps Make Family Bird Watching Adventure Fun – Maple Ridge News
By Alex Friesen / Special to The News
Did you know that August is National Family Fun Month?
Okay, it might not be an official bank holiday, but if the internet says it’s a thing, who should we argue with?
With school around the corner and some of us returning to the classroom or office for the first time in a while, there are only so many days left to enjoy this precious family time.
But fear not, we at the Fraser Valley Regional Library are here to help.
Would you like to make the most of the summer weather and go outside?
We’ll cover you!
Borrow one of our bird watching backpacks and explore the beautiful nature that the Fraser Valley has to offer.
Equipped with high quality binoculars, a pocket guide for native birds and a laminated bird watching guide, we make it as easy as possible for you.

Or maybe you’d rather get away from the heat and still spend time in nature; Try one of our bat sets and set off after sunset to listen to the bats with our bat echo meter detector.
And while you’re at it, you can borrow a telescope and watch the stars, all for free with your FVRL card.
Are you looking for ways to keep the family at home this month?
Join us and test your knowledge on one of the two FVRL virtual quiz nights on offer this month!

If you’re looking for something niche, test your Marvel Universe knowledge on August 17th from 3:30 pm to 4:00 pm at Avengers Virtual Triviavia
Registration is required for both and can be done at fvrl.bc.ca under “Events”.

You might want to get creative this month but don’t know where to start.
Look no further, because from now on you can use your FVRL library card to access the “Creativebug” database free of charge.
Creativebug is an incredible database of arts and crafts tutorials for makers of all ages.
Whether you are a seasoned skilled craftsman or brand new, Creativebug has something for you.
You can also get a ready-made Take ‘n Make-Kit from all participating FVRL branches to let your creativity run free.
This month we’re creating adorable monster and watermelon corner bookmarks at the Pitt Meadows Public Library. These kits are only offered while stocks last, so we recommend that you come at the beginning of the month if possible.
