LATEST UPDATE: Yuma double homicide victim identified

Suspect officially charged on Thursday

YUMA, Arizona (KYMA, KECY) – New details about the double homicide that happened on Magnolia Avenue in Yuma. The police have uncovered the relationship between the two victims. The crime scene was still active for more than 24 hours after the police responded on Tuesday morning.

The police received a call from a man threatening suicide. They arrived to find the bodies of a mother and son, now identified as 25-year-old Tamacia Wilder and two-year-old Roy Wilder.

Police also confirmed that the cause of death appears to be severe blunt violent trauma.

A neighbor says he’s surprised.

“We were at work. We didn’t hear anything. It was pretty strange. Yes, it’s pretty quiet. Nobody argues around here. It’s just a pretty quiet area,” says resident Cesar Magallanes.

The suspect, Trevon Wilhite, 28, is a retired Marine and has been arrested for first degree murder and manipulation of evidence.

Yuma police say the mother and Wilhite knew each other, but again their son was not related to the suspect. Those who knew the victims took to social media with their grief.

One says that they have known the mother for over 20 years and that she was “a beautiful young lady inside and out”. Another saying: “You killed one of my childhood friends and her son.”

The Public Affairs Office of Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Yuma confirms that Wilhite was stationed at the base about two years ago. MCAS Yuma has declined to comment on the case.

YPD says more information will be released shortly. The investigation is understandably ongoing. Wilhite will be charged in court on Thursday afternoon.

KYMA.com, News 11 and 13 On Your Side will be in the courtroom Thursday for Wilhite’s indictment. Stay with us to keep sharing this evolving story.
