Leroy Charles Denard

March 31, 1966 – December 26, 2022

Leroy Charles Denard, age 56, passed away on December 26, 2022 in the comfort of his home in Fort Worth Texas. In the spring on March 31, 1966 Leroy was born to James Andrew and Betty Ann Penn Denard in Yuma Arizona.

Leroy attended San Pasqual High School and was proud to be a warrior. Straight out of High School Leroy was employed with the Quechan Tribe economic advancement program California Indian Consortium the Man Power (CIMC).

Leroy enjoyed weekend barbecues, and two-step dancing with his family in Fort Worth Texas. In the early years on the Fort Yuma Indian reservation Leroy enjoyed listening to his reggae music and watching his Bruce Lee movies while working out with his nun chucks. He will truly be missed.

Leroy is survived by his wife, and the love of his life, Wanda Gunnels and his four stepchildren, Johnnie Lee Jr, Andre Desmond, Steven De Carlos and Theresa Gunnel; numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins ​​and a lifetime of friends.

Leroy was preceded in death by his parents and his sister known as the twins Marlene Porter and Darlene Castillo, Essie Gilmore, Shirley Hart, and his brother Andrew Denard.

Pallbearers include Malachi, and Cyrus Allen Matthew Juan, Zion White, Joseph Montague, Mantreal Gunnel, Joseph, Terrence Jr. Adrian and Ashley Rose, Angel, Keith, Charles, Sepha, Darian Denard, Kodiah Yellow John, Tyler and Luke Porter.

Honorary pallbearers include Stacey, Vincent T, and Roy Durand, Lamuel, Shawn, Preston, Dwayne Porter, Lonnie and Lavern Sr. Gilmore, Jackson Brenner Rod Hart, Boyd Hill Sr., Kenny Sr., Emilio, Charles, Morales, Chano and Shanner Escalanti, Chase Choate Stacey Amador, Cecil and Caine Palone, Timothy O’Brien Remigious Baxter Anthony Alverez Lionel Montague, Arlie, Philbrick and Christoble Emerson.

Funeral Services will be on Tuesday, January 17, 2023 at Yuma Mortuary from 10:00 am to 11:00 am with viewing from 11:00 am to 12:00 noon. Church Service at the Quechan Big House will be from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm and then Ft. Yuma Cemetery 5:00pm to 6:00pm for Traditional Cremation.
