Light showers bring relief to Phoenix
After weeks of dry, hot temperatures and an exceptionally close game of the Phoenix Suns, the parched Phoenicians found another reason to celebrate on Tuesday night: the first raindrops.
As of Tuesday evening, light showers and gusts of wind of up to 45 miles per hour were expected in most parts of Maricopa County, with the temperature dropping to 87 degrees. What arrived on Tuesday night were the first drops of rain that the valley received in June.
According to the National Weather Service in Phoenix, while the Phoenix area was just under 0.04 inches in May, the most measurable amount fell in January. That month, the weather service reported a total of 0.91 inches of rain.
On Wednesday there is a 40% chance of rain and thunderstorms, although this probability drops to 20% by Wednesday night. Temperatures are expected to reach just 102 degrees, a below average average.
On Thursday and Friday it will be sunny again and the maximum temperatures will reach normal temperatures of up to 108 degrees.
These drier conditions combined with an increase in high pressure will cause temperatures to rise over the weekend, with temperatures rising to 112 degrees on Sunday.
