Local summary: Flagstaff Boys Hoops catch fire in 2nd, 3rd quarter, blow from Mohave 77-42 | Local
Sneezy got the first run on the second roll with a 3, then hit a floater from a Morrow screen and finished a 7-0 run alone with a steal and a bucket to get Flagstaff to 31-22 at 2:26 second quarter. Sneezy later hit a 3 to give Flagstaff its 37-24 lead at break.
Sneezy didn’t score in the second half, but didn’t have to. Morrow and Max Fritsch took on most of the offensive load at the beginning of the third round as the two helped the Eagles extend their lead.
The win comes at an ideal time for the Eagles, who lost two games. Flagstaff, number 27 in the conference that begins that day, improves to 4-6 and 3-4 in the 4A Grand Canyon region before meeting with American Leadership Academy No. 17 Queen Creek (4-4, 3-2 4A Desert Sky) as both teams try to keep hopes going after the season.
“(This is) a tremendous confidence boost for us,” said Walton. “… To score seventy points and see your shot go through it was big for us. This one was circled as a coaching staff. We knew if we could have a good outing tonight we were confident he’d be pushing could point us in the right direction. “
The 42 points scored by Mohave are the second lowest the Eagles have admitted this season, and the 77 points scored by Flagstaff are the team’s highest since a 73-point game against Monument Valley last season.
