Locals make up for Yuma at 5:10 am – Akron News reporter
Several Washington County residents started scheduled times in Yuma at 5:10 a.m. on Saturday, June 19.
Over 200 participants from Colorado, Florida, Wyoming, Nebraska, Utah, and Idaho ran either the 5K or the 10K course.
Four Akron residents ranked in the top 10 female 5K times. 92 women competed in the 5K, which 13-year-old Addison Weis won with a time of 23:27. Brie Sampson finished second and finished the race in 23:57 minutes. Heather Weis finished sixth in a time of 25:57, while Kilee Vogt put her in ninth place in 27:27.
Susan Samber landed in 17th place with a time of 32:11. Ashleigh Friedly ran in 24th place with 34:23 and Susan Watson was 29th in 37:32. Amanda McKay and Monica Hunt crossed the finish line together in 42:37 and finished 37th and 38th respectively. Jen Perry and Diann Perry finished 45:19 and finished 41st and 42nd. Michelle Mead was 89th with a 1: 05.25.
On the male side of the 5K, 51 participants completed the race. Jaden Perry led the locals to second place with a time of 22:08. The 10-year-old Jefferson Hunt reached fourth place overall with 23:49 hours. Orion Perry finished 22nd with a time of 37:31, while Riker Perry finished 29th with 45:15. Kaisin Smith and Braxton Smith finished 49th and 50th respectively with a time of 1: 05.25.
The 10 km course provided a cross-country feel, including running over a runway and on dirt roads. 14 bitches completed the 10 km, where Karli Christensen was third with a time of 56:14. In the men’s 10 km, 15 participants completed the course. Gene Perry finished 13th in 1:02:45.
