LTO warns the public about a fake Facebook page

THE Land Transportation Office (LTO) warned the public not to contact or transact a Facebook page masquerading as an official LTO account.

According to LTO, the fake account with the Facebook handle @OfficialLTOlicenseassistance or LTO License Assistance Center offers processing of driver’s licenses and fees of 3,500 to 6,500 pesos.

LTO said, “These scammers are encouraging remediation by not taking delivery and not showing up for driver test.”

The LTO warned the public not to post personal information online, especially on unauthorized and unverified sites, to prevent possible identity theft and other illegal activities.

The LTO also clarified that the “driver’s licenses issued through the fake Facebook page of the LTO License Assistance Center or anyone outside the LTO office are fake and invalid”.

In the meantime, a driver caught with a fake driver’s license will be “subject to harsher penalties”.

The agency urges the public to report the said Facebook page en masse.
