PHOENIX (AP) – A man was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter after allegedly driving street races and causing a crash, Phoenix police said Tuesday.
They said 34-year-old Andrew Friedlander was jailed Monday night after being released from a hospital.
It was unclear Tuesday whether Friedlander still had an attorney on his case.
Police said 28-year-old Charissa Coleman was pronounced dead in a hospital Sunday night following the accident.
According to police, Coleman was turning left on a street when a passenger car crashed into their vehicle at high speed.
A bystander pulled the unconscious woman out of her vehicle and began CPR until the medical crews arrived.
The police tried to stop street races in the city.
In March, Phoenix City Council approved a new ordinance allowing police to seize a car that has been involved in road racing or reckless driving for up to 30 days.
