Mayor of Yuma: Release of migrants in Yuma and San Luis

Yuma Mayor Doug Nicholls issued a statement to begin the release of migrants in the Yuma and San Luis communities.

Mayor Nicholls said his priority is community safety and public welfare, as well as the humanitarian problems arising from the release.

Nicholls said he reached out to Arizona Governor Doug Ducey, as well as US Sens. Kyrsten Sinema and Mark Kelly.

In a statement released, Nicholls said, “I urge the federal government to allocate additional resources to US Customs and Border Protection, more space in facilities for migrants to ensure safe CDC guidelines, and more COVID testing … um this to facilitate the migration situation at the border. ”
