Service members fully respond to threatening lifelike edicts – News 11’s Arlette Yousif reports
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) – Three active riflemen on Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Yuma, but don’t worry – it’s just a simulation to prepare our men and women in uniform. The full production was equipped with military police, fire brigade and medical personnel on standby. Screams of alleged gunshot wounds can be heard in the distance.
Operations officer 1st Lt. Thorsen Hsu says these exercises are necessary so that the military is always prepared.
“Ultimately, I think today’s day was a success. We identified a lot of the things that we did well and some things that we can improve. But ultimately I think we will be better prepared to deal with one[n] active shooter threatens the installation because of today, “says MCAS Yuma Provost Marshalls Operations Officer 1st. Lt. Thorsen Hsu.
In addition to the Provost Marshalls team, the entire production was equipped with military police, fire services and medical personnel on standby.
Screams from the military acting like gunshot victims can be heard from afar.
“Elements from the border patrol and the Yuma Police Department were also in attendance to assess and assess our capabilities,” said 1st. Lieutenant Hsu.
Each team played an intricate role in conducting the exercise.
“I was in charge of our initial team, our special response team, um, that’s like our Swat team. I was responsible for getting my boys to set up the throwing phone, take control of the room, clear rooms and give the MPs ‘okay’ and the evacuation team to start the medicine.[evacuating] People, “says MCAS Yuma Special Reaction Team Leader Cpl. Eric Sanchez.
But things don’t always go as planned.
“We have adapted. We have overcome it. We have adapted to it,” explains Cpl. Sanchez.
Although this simulation did not represent a terrorist situation, the same procedures would be used.
