PHOENIX – The weekend starts with a crackling noise in the Phoenix metro – an overheating warning applies from Friday morning.
The warning runs from 10 a.m. on Friday, with a likely high of 112 degrees, through 8 p.m. on Saturday, when daytime temperatures could get as high as 114 degrees.
On Saturday there was a thunderstorm probability of 20%. The low is expected to be 91 degrees.
There won’t be much relief on Sunday either. The mercury could hit 112 degrees again and then 110 degrees on Monday (30% chance of storms that night), but the heat should subside a bit on Tuesday with a dip to 107 degrees.
The Arizona Department of Health said nearly 3,000 people a year end up in emergency rooms across the state suffering from heat-related illnesses.
The homeless, infants, toddlers, and adults aged 65 and over are most susceptible to heat-related illnesses.
To protect yourself from heat sickness, the health department recommends drinking water, dressing properly in hot weather, wearing sunscreen, and avoiding strenuous activities, among other things.
The Valley has had the hottest June in its history. The average temperature for the month was 95.3 degrees. That sounds good now, doesn’t it?
