Moderna COVID-19 Child Study Begins in Phoenix
750 children will receive a Moderna COVID-19 vaccine as part of a clinical trial with 6,000 participants in Phoenix. The city is one of eight cities in which child experiments are carried out.
PHOENIX – – You can now register to have your children vaccinated COVID-19 in Phoenix through a Moderna vaccine trial.
“I’m just very excited. I’m really excited to be part of making this public,” says Rachel Guthrie, mother of three.
When she heard about the Moderna Trial for Children, she knew she wanted to sign her three-year-old son, Ollie, and one-year-old daughter, Charlotte.
“The risks are so small compared to the benefits,” she said.
To qualify for the study, children must be between six months and twelve years old.
Although the process has only just begun, there has already been a great response.
“It was just amazing, gorgeous and very comforting and good,” said Dr. Steve Plimpton, who is the lead researcher for the Moderna Study for COVID-19.
He says there are eight study locations in the United States and Phoenix is the first place to start.
Participants are ready to travel to Phoenix from anywhere to attend, including from the south.
The first 750 of 6,000 children in the study will all receive the vaccine. After this first phase, a placebo study will be carried out in the study.
All patients will be monitored by doctors and study organizers.
“The fact that we now have more science behind it and how these vaccines work is the big part,” said Plimpton, adding that this is a step in the right direction.
With such a huge response, he believes our community could fill those first 750 positions before the other test sites even begin.
