Monsoon crashes trees on residential units in northern Phoenix
A family from Phoenix says Friday night’s monsoon storm caused a tree to fall on their home, making it dangerous to live in, but they have no choice but to do it.
PHOENIX – It was a scary night for many in a North Phoenix Housing estate when trees fell Friday night during a monsoon.
Doug Resh lives in the apartment and says, “I just heard a loud bang.”
One of the trees was completely uprooted and fell on parked cars. Another fell on someone’s apartment.
“My friend ran up the page and up there to see if everyone was okay,” he said, and luckily neighbors say no one lives in that upstairs unit.
The tree that fell on the device was just above a waterline and now neighbors say they are expected to be without water for a few days.
Those who live on the lower level of the unit are concerned for their own safety.
“The balcony is about to collapse,” said Deann Roeick, adding, “I don’t know if there is any damage from the falling roof going into our apartment or not. We were told it was not safe to go to our apartment. “
But she, her husband and her grandchildren have no choice but to sleep there on a Saturday night. On the second night of heavy rain, they only hope for the best.
“That’s the thing, I have no choice. We don’t have any extra money just to get a hotel room and all that. We don’t know what else to do,” said Roeick.
The Phoenix area expects rain on Saturday night as a storm sweeps the state, but is not expected to be as severe as the storm on Friday.
The storm on Friday triggered a rare ground freeze on all flights to and from Sky Harbor International Airport for an hour on Friday evening.
