More rain expected in the Phoenix area; Flash flood clock in place

Evening weather forecast – 08/15/21

Today we reached a maximum of 99 degrees and enjoy these below average temperatures!

More rain is expected to be about the Phoenix Area and beyond, and a flash flood watch will be in effect through 2 a.m. Tuesday, says the National Weather Service (NWS).

Thunderstorms are expected to last until the beginning of the week, with the possibility of flash floods.

“Active monsoon conditions will continue until the beginning of the week, with daily chances of showers and storms. Heavy rains, local floods and strong gusty winds will be the main threats,” NWS said.

Although rain is expected, NWS says to continue to watch out for the desert heat.

“While the risk of heat is likely to be low due to below average altitudes, places with thinner cloud cover could end up with a higher risk of heat. Those who engage in prolonged outdoor activities can still be vulnerable. As always, be prepared for heat – especially when the temperature is higher, humidity,” announced the agency.

On Sunday the maximum temperature in Phoenix was 99 degrees, which is six degrees below normal for this time of the year.

Gila County and the city of Flagstaff in northern Arizona are expected to see heavy rain, lightning and hail the size of a penny, NWS said Sunday.

Over the weekend, two people were found dead in Gila Bend and 30 people were saved after severe flooding swept streets, homes and businesses.
