Navajo County’s COVID-19 Vaccine Update | Latest news

HOLBROOK – Facilities in Navajo County receive 1,600 first doses and 2,800 second doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine this week. This allocation does not match the interest shown in the community and we currently have a vaccine shortage like the COVID-19 test shortage we had in spring 2020.

The Health Department asks your patience as we strive to make the vaccine available to those who wish to receive it as supply in our areas has not yet met demand.

Please understand that appointments for the vaccine are mandatory and are currently allocated according to availability. The state requires that every dose of the vaccine be recorded, and it has provided an online system that residents can use to register and schedule appointments to receive the vaccine.

Levels 1A-B and 65+ are currently open in our county. The vaccine will be given to those who need it most, based on an animal model.

Unfortunately, the registration system requires residents to continue checking into the system until an appointment is available. If you don’t see an open appointment, it doesn’t mean the system is broken. This means that there are no vaccine doses available in the clinics and users will have to check back at another time.

Local vaccine distribution centers only schedule appointments if they have vaccine doses available.

Due to the current nationwide vaccine shortage, the availability of appointments is very limited. However, this also ensures that all agreed deadlines are met.

Appointments made without vaccines in place would create a false sense of availability and cause appointments to be canceled. As the vaccine supply increases and our vaccines are available, the availability of appointments increases too.

For those who don’t have access to technology or need help with technology, additional registration assistance can be found at the following locations, where staff have been trained on the vaccine registration process by our public health team:

While public health nurses do disease screenings, we still find too many people going to work even when they are not feeling well. Please stay home if you are sick. Do your part to slow the spread and avoid potentially passing it on to others who may have a severe reaction:

Wear face covering in public

Stay home when you are sick

Wash your hands frequently

Let’s all do our part and slow the spread!
