NEW DETAILS: COVID-19 outbreaks detected in 3 Yuma elementary schools

Positive cases with Mesquite, Ronald Reagan, and Salida del Sol. reported

YUMA, Arizona (KYMA, KECY) – The Crane School District says there are outbreaks of COVID-19 in three of its elementary schools.

Crane Superintendent Laurie Doering posted an online statement Thursday informing parents of the situation. Doering said the district is currently dealing with outbreaks at Mesquite, Ronald Reagan and Salida del Sol elementary schools.

The statement did not contain any information on the number of people infected or whether they were students or employees. The Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHD) defines a “school breakout” as:

  • Two or more laboratory-confirmed coronavirus cases within 14 days
  • The infected had contact with others who did not share a house
  • The infected people had no close contact outside of the school environment

Crane says it has contacted all students and staff members affected by the outbreak. The administrators tell parents that their children are not affected if they do not receive notification from the school district.

All three schools will continue with face-to-face classes despite the outbreaks. Superintendent Doering assures the parents that the county is prepared for this scenario. She says all Crane schools have mitigation strategies.

“We have prepared for this scenario and we don’t let the remarkable things we have planned for this school year be dampened. Our priority remains to provide our students with quality education and to follow protocols that allow them and our staff allow to stay. ” as safe and healthy as possible. “Doering writes in her statement to the parents.

Crane students returned to the classroom on July 28th. At this point, face masks remain in the classroom voluntarily under Arizona law. However, students and staff must wear face covering while traveling on school buses.

The school district makes the following recommendations for students and their families:

  • Wear a mask when you are indoors and cannot be within two meters of other people.
  • Masks are optional in the classrooms but are highly recommended.
  • Students should stay home if they feel sick or have flu-like symptoms (e.g. fever, cough, chills, fever, etc.)
  • Remind students to notify staff immediately if they feel uncomfortable at school.
