New Phoenix Theater Liquidation Sale

Word on the street is that the New Phoenix Theater on Johnson Park has landed a buyer and will be converted into apartments, which is super sad. I understand that there was, at one point, a buyer who wanted to retain the building as a theater, but that the deal fell through. It was so close… which is why this transition from cultural institution to multi-residence is especially painful.

Seeing that the fate for the building has been sealed, a couple of “friends of the theatre” are preparing to liquidate the theatrical items that have accumulated over the years.

I stopped over today to take a look around, and can say that anyone that loves rummaging through clothes and whimsical oddities will most likely enjoy themselves tomorrow, Saturday, December 10, from 10am to 4pm, which is the designated time slot for browsing the 2nd + floors of scattered items.

While it’s definitely a sad day for this beloved theater building, there is an opportunity to walk away with a memento from one of the theater’s vast number of productions.
