New traffic lights on 46th Street and Phoenix Avenue turns on Wednesday
New traffic lights on 46th Street and Phoenix Avenue have been given the green light to go into operation.
The four-way string of lights at the intersection was recently installed between FedEx and Tacos 4 Life as part of a Future Fort Smith project involving citizens, according to the city’s Facebook page.
The bid for the project was $ 264,000, according to Matt Meeker, director of roads and transportation for the city.
It’s in line with comprehensive plan guidelines, according to the city’s Facebook post. The guidelines are designed to “ensure adequate, well-maintained infrastructure, public safety and public facilities” and “ensure that utilities and infrastructure systems can meet the city’s long-term needs”.
The area sees around 16,000 vehicles a day, Meeker added.
