Night floods and evacuations in Navajo County after severe monsoon storms

NAVAJO COUNTY FLOOD UPDATE:

Navajo County experienced widespread flooding overnight and evacuation orders were in place for some areas. All residents of the Silver Creek Drainage Basin from Shumway to Taylor and Snowflake were asked to evacuate Saturday night as heavy monsoon storms swept the area. County officials estimated a 1 to 4 hour window for evacuations to remain in place. Blue sections on Navajo County’s Public Works map indicate flooded areas. Many roads in flooded areas are closed or impassable. Emergency managers urge the public to remain vigilant and never attempt to cross flooded streets or enter flooded creeks, creeks, or ablutions. The National Weather Service says a flood watch will remain in effect until midnight in much of central and northern Arizona tonight.
