Nancy Bertha Rogers McLean

EMBDEN – Nancy Bertha Rogers McLean died on Sept. 3, 2022 peacefully at her home in Embden. She was born to Herbert and Phyllis Rogers at Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington on Aug. 30, 1935. Her first home was in Flagstaff. She also lived in Dead River, Bingham, and North Anson.

She graduated from Anson Academy in North Anson in June, 1953. She took an x-ray course at Sisters Hospital in Waterville when she completed the course she worked at Thayer Hospital in Waterville until she married Donald Winston McLean on May 22, 1955 at the North Anson Congregational Church. They were married 57 years until his death on Dec. 9, 2012.

After Winston’s father’s death in November 1964 they moved with their family of one girl, and three boys from their home in Emden to the family farm with the windmill in North Anson. Nancy helped out milking the dairy heard of about 50 cows, and also handled the checkbook and bills for the family farm. They ran the farm for 18 years until the fall of 1983 when Winston developed health issues. They sold the family farm and moved back to the house they built in Embden. They took car trips throughout Canada, New England, Montana, and Amish country in Pennsylvania. They did a lot of snowmobiling taking many overnight trips with friends which they enjoyed very much.

Nancy then worked at SAD 74 as a Title 1, Ed Tech II, For 23 years from 1985 until her retirement in 2008. She belong to several organizations; North Anson Congregational Church, North Anson Grange #88, Emden Historical Society, University of Maine Extension Service, Emden Traveler Snowmobile Club where she served all offices from secretary To president, and Flagstaff Memorial Chapel Association holding various offices.

Nancy is survived by her children Gerald and his wife Julie of Savannah, Ga., Dale of North Anson, Linda and her husband James Schick of Colchester, Vt.; and David and partner Brooke of North Anson; her grandchildren Wade, Tracy, Sarah, Kyle, Ryan, Dan, Kristen, and Michael; her great-grandchildren Tyler, Brooklyn, Derek, Connor, Brianna, and Lindsay.

She was predeceased by her parents Herbert and Phyllis Rodgers; her two sisters, Judith Strout of Bar Harbor and Jane Mole of Polson, Mont.; and several cousins.

Services with visitation will be held at Giberson Funeral Home in Madison on Sept. 9 from 4 to 7 pm A church service will be held at the North Anson Congregational Church on Sept. 10 at 10 am with light refreshments to follow at the church is fellowship hall, burial will be Sunday, Sept. 11 at the Flagstaff memorial cemetery in Eustis by Winstons’ side.

The family would like to thank the caregivers Bobbie-Sue, Jean, Kaylee, Laurie, Hannah and Beacon Hospice Care for all their care and assistance. A special thank you to Francis, Esma, and Janet.
