One dead after a traffic accident southwest of Tucson

TUCSON (KVOA) – A man has died after being injured in a fatal collision between two pick-ups at Three Points Monday.

According to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, a Nissan and Chevy Silverado pickup collided on South Cherokee Lane and West Scotland Road at around 6:37 a.m. that day.

According to reports, 20-year-old Alejandro Herrera was unable to stop at a stop sign and collided with the other vehicle.

Herrera allegedly fled the scene and left two passengers in the Nissan. A man in the Nissan was pronounced dead. The second passenger was rushed to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the Chevy Silverado was unharmed.

PCSD said Herrera was taken to a local hospital by a friend.

Herrera was reportedly arrested and taken to the Pima County Adult Detention Center for “manslaughter, leaving the scene of a fatal collision, reckless driving, and other crimes”.

The investigation is still ongoing.
