Overnight work on Tucson’s first “divergent diamond” exchange
TUCSON, Ariz (KGUN) – Work on our first “Divergent Diamond” (DDI) exchange on I-10 and Houghton will continue overnight from Sunday March 14th to Thursday March 19th.
Crews will pave sections of the entrance ramp from Houghton Road to I-10 eastbound and the exit from I-10 westbound to Houghton Road.
The two ramps will be closed every night between 9:30 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. During the closure, drivers should use ramps on either Rita Road or Colossal Cave / Wentworth Road.
Houghton Road and the ramps on the west side of the interchange will remain open.
How will traffic on Houghton change when the DDI completes? The thought of currently traveling the “wrong side” of Houghton is quite unsettling to process until the design is explained.
If you’d like to try navigating a DDI, head to North Phoenix and exit on Happy Valley Road.
