Ozone alert for the Tucson area
TUCSON, Ariz. (KOLD News 13) – A ground-level ozone pollution warning is in place in the Tucson area on Wednesday, July 28th.
According to the Pima County’s Department of the Environment, people who are sensitive to air pollution may experience shortness of breath, cough, throat irritation, wheezing, and difficulty breathing.
Sensitive individuals are encouraged to limit vigorous outdoor physical activity between 12 p.m. and 6 p.m., as these activities can lead to faster and deeper breathing, which can release ozone into the lungs.
It can affect children, adults who are active outdoors, people with respiratory problems, and people who are unusually sensitive to ozone.
A number of factors can contribute to ground-level ozone, including engine exhaust, industrial and power plant emissions, gasoline fumes, chemical solvents, and natural sources.
Local residents can reduce the production of ground-level ozone by reducing their driving, not idling car engines, refueling vehicles after 6:00 p.m., making sure the fuel caps are tightly closed after refueling, not using gas-powered lawn machines that use the monthly Check tire pressure and save electricity.
