Parade time, how to attend the fair

St. Patrick’s Day comes a little early this year in Phoenix as the 39th annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Faire returns downtown on Saturday, March 12.

“The greenest day in the desert” will bring Irish-themed floats, live performances and food to the Valley.

While the parade, which starts at 10 am, is open to the public, the fair at Margaret T. Hance Park will have ticketed entry. Admission can be purchased in advance on Eventbrite as well as at the event.

Here’s a guide to how to see the parade and partake in the day’s festivities at the St. Patrick’s Day Faire.

St. Patrick’s Day Parade route in Phoenix

The parade begins at 10 am at Third and Oak streets in downtown Phoenix. The route goes south on Third Street, past the east side of Margaret T. Hance Park and ends at Portland Street.

Typically, marching bands, Irish dancers and bagpipers are part of the procession.

St. Patrick’s Day Faire in Phoenix

The St. Patrick’s Day Faire will take place from 10 am to 5 pm on the east side of Margaret T. Hance Park.

Irish music and step-dancing performances are among the live entertainment scheduled for the day. Attendees can also explore their genealogy and learn more about the history of Irish culture in Arizona. As for food, there will be corned beef and cabbage as well as a diverse array of local vendors.

Parking, which is included with your ticket, is at Central Avenue and Palm Lane. A free shuttle will transport guests to the Irish Cultural Center across the street from the park.

Here’s how much admission costs:

  • General admission: $12.
  • Military (with ID): $10.
  • 55 and older (with ID): $10.
  • Children (12 and under): Free.

St. Patrick’s Day at Fountain Hills

Fountain Hills’ St. Patrick’s Day celebration also takes place on Saturday, March 12. From 11 am-5 pm, the town will host its Irish Fountain Fest at the fountain, 12925 N. Saguaro Blvd. The event will feature traditional Irish folk dancing, a Celtic rock band, food and drinks. Admission is free.

The annual Greening of the Fountain — during which the fountain’s water flows emerald green — can be seen during the festival as well as on St. Patrick’s Day at noon and 4 pm
