Pedestrians killed in hit-and-run in East Flagstaff | Crime and Courts

One person died Friday night after a hit and run crash at an intersection near Flagstaff Mall.

Eric Chapman, a 30-year-old Flagstaff man, was arrested by the Flagstaff Police Department and charged with leaving the site in a fatal collision.

Authorities say Chapman hit two pedestrians in his vehicle at the intersection of North Highway 89 before witnesses saw him flee south on Country Club Drive.

One of the pedestrians was killed in the collision, the other is currently in a stable condition. Both were transported to Flagstaff Medical Center after the collision, according to police.

The authorities have not yet disclosed the victim’s name.

The Flagstaff Police Department said there are no crosswalks at the intersection that allow pedestrian crossings in any direction. The department says several witnesses were watching two people in the lanes of Highway 89 heading north prior to the accident.

The nuisance could have been a factor in the collision, but police say an investigation is still ongoing and the laboratory’s results are pending.
