One person was found dead in an apartment after going up in flames on the night of Saturday, April 10, fire departments say.

The fire occurred near 83rd Avenue and Indian School Road around 6:45 p.m. Neighbors who passed called 911 after seeing flames coming out of the apartment.

Firefighters came to the fire on the second floor with 10 foot flames through the windows.

“Heavy fire and exposure to heat brought the firefighters to their knees as they entered and searched the residence. Unfortunately, after their search was completed, a deceased person was found in the apartment,” the department said.

The victim has not been identified, but it is believed to be a woman. Phoenix Police will conduct the death investigation.
