Phoenix firefighter suffers heat-related injuries during battle against World War I
PHOENIX – A Phoenix firefighter was hospitalized on Saturday morning after an initial fire in an alarm house in northeast Phoenix.
Phoenix firefighters say the Phoenix and Scottsdale firefighters reacted after receiving reports of smoke from a house near Tatum Boulevard and Deer Valley Road just before 11:30 a.m.
The crews said when they got to the scene they found a house with a tile roof with heavy smoke coming from the back of the house.
During the battle with the fire, the roof partially collapsed and the crews took up a position of defense against the fire.
Firefighters then set off the fire as an initial alarm fire to keep more firefighters on site and allow crews to spin amid the extreme heat.
As the fire continued, a Phoenix firefighter was “overwhelmed by the heat” and treated and then transported to a nearby hospital in stable condition.
The fire was then extinguished, no other injuries were reported. Four people were displaced as a result of the incident.
The cause of the fire is currently being investigated.
