Phoenix Goodyear Airport receives Biorisk accreditation
The Phoenix City Aviation Department’s outbreak prevention, response and recovery protocols have recognized its three airports, including Phoenix Goodyear Airport, by the Global Biorisk Advisory Council.
In addition to Phoenix Sky Harbor Airports, Phoenix Goodyear and Phoenix Deer Valley Airports have received GBAC STAR accreditation. Goodyear and Deer Valley will be the first general aviation airports in the country to receive accreditation, the aviation division said in a press release.
“Since the pandemic began, the world has recognized the importance and importance of proper cleaning and disinfection to protect our health,” Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego said in a prepared statement. “This award is a testament to the commitment of our team to ensure that our travelers, operators, airlines, concessionaires, tenants and business partners have the safest possible environment when dealing with us.”
Accreditation represents a high level of performance in the cleaning industry, including 20 components that a facility must meet in order to achieve accreditation. Facilities must also demonstrate that they have established and maintained a cleaning and disinfection program to minimize the risk of infectious diseases. have used the correct protocols for cleaning and disinfecting facilities; and have staff trained to prepare for and respond to outbreaks and infectious diseases.
“Meeting the highest industry standards is a commitment that Phoenix Airports are working hard to achieve,” said Vice Mayor Thelda Williams, Chair of the Transportation, Infrastructure and Innovation Subcommittee. “Obtaining GBAC STAR accreditation is the gold standard in a performance-based program and demonstrates our commitment to safety and readiness as we build the trust of our passengers, customers and employees in our facilities and procedures.”
During the COVID-19 pandemic, all three airports took a number of initiatives to ensure a safe, welcoming and healthy environment for those who come through the airports. This includes a robust cleaning program, the installation of plexiglass and UV-C LED disinfection lights on escalator handrails and much more.
“The accreditation of the GBAC STAR facility at all three Phoenix City airports is an outstanding achievement,” said Carlos Garcia, Phoenix city council in District 8, who represents the district where Sky Harbor is located. “Travelers should feel confident that our facilities are clean and safe, and that staff have been specially trained to stop the spread of COVID-19.”
“Phoenix Sky Harbor and Deer Valley and Goodyear Airports continue to provide world-class safe, clean facilities and service to our customers,” said Debra Stark, City Councilor for the 3rd District of Phoenix, who is a member of the Subcommittee on Transportation, Infrastructure and Innovation. “I am very proud of the entire aviation team that has received GBAC STAR accreditation.”
