Phoenix Suns Deadline Week: 3 best moves

It’s close of trading week and Phoenix Suns fans seem divided over what the team should do in Phoenix on Thursday before noon.

Starting on Sunday evening, when 27-13 Phoenix hosts the 28-14 LeBron-less Lakers, the push for the playoffs coincides with the push for the deadline week to improve.

With the team’s success and a pretty decent runway for playoff competitions over the next several years, the Suns’ future draft picks are no longer as valuable as they were during the Great Drought.

When the Phoenix Suns enter the close of trading week, they have to consider all options: from important steps to absolutely nothing.

Even so, it’s much more fun to speculate recklessly and advise HR on how to get the job done. There is a lot of this “advice” on the internet.

What are the “best options” for a team whose wealth is only increasing?

A main focus is on rim protection and improvement ideas for the central defense of Phoenix. Other areas that are sure to be assessed and explored by General Manager James Jones are depth in both forward positions, veterans with playoff experience, and more shooting.

In Saturday’s games, the Suns ranked 26th (4.2) with blocked shots per game. There is a category for targeted improvements.

The team also achieved a poor rank (27th) for thefts per game with 6.6. Of course, any addition would have to include above-average defensive skills.

With Chris Paul and Devin Booker continuing to lock down leadership responsibility, the Suns expect Cam Johnson to be back on the field soon.

Johnson, who hasn’t played since March 2, has been paused due to COVID-19 logs.

This will feel like an addition to the trading deadline, but what else is on the front line?
