Pima County Hosting Distribution Drive Saturday

TUCSON, AZ – Pima County’s District 5 and Pima Animal Care Center are working together to provide service to the area’s four- and two-legged residents on Saturday afternoon.

The two companies are running a pet supplies distribution campaign from 1-4am at Mission Manor Elementary School, where everything from pet food, collars, leashes, bowls, toys, and more to pets is given out while driving.

The drive also distributes human consumables such as toiletries, cleaning products, blankets, and more, with items being available based on availability.

District 5, represented by Supervisor Adelita Grijalva, includes all of Tucson west of Interstate 10 and 19 and a piece of land that runs east to Wilmot Road between Broadway and Grant.

Grijalva said the animal welfare campaigns she participated in were successful. She is excited to see what impact the Saturday event will have on residents in her district.

“After the success of the first outreach trip in District 5, I knew we had to hold another one here,” Grijalva said in a statement. “The shelter brought so many items with them, but the demand was so great that it quickly ran out of food. We hear you and are here to help!”

Pima Animal Care Center distributed 2.13 million meals and more than 36,000 pounds of supplies in 2020, and housed 137 animals for owners hospitalized with COVID-19.

So far this year, PACC has provided more than 177,000 meals, 15,000 pounds of animal supplies and 6,000 pounds of human supplies.

“The need is there,” said Michele Figueroa, director of Human Animal Support Services at PACC, in a statement. “So many of us have felt the effects of this pandemic and if we can help resolve some of the difficulties we will be more than happy to put the work into preparing these events.”

Anyone who wants to donate to PACC can do so here.
