television/radio: Bally Sports Arizona, Arizona Sports (98.7 FM), KHOV-FM (105.1 FM)

After a three-game sweep of the Miami Marlins and a 5-2 road trip, the Diamondbacks resume the regular season at home Friday against the division rival Rockies. Kelly has been part of a strong start for Arizona’s starting rotation. He makes his sixth start of the season and opponents are batting only .208 against him. But he’s had trouble against the Rockies over his career with a 1-3 record and 6.49 ERA in six career starts. Still, Kelly is coming off seven scoreless innings in a 2-0 win at St. Louis on April 30 and has held opponent scoreless in three of his five starts. Kuhl isn’t a big strikeout pitcher but is off to a good start of this season. Against the Diamondbacks, however, he’s 0-1 with an inflated 11.25 ERA over three appearances.

Colorado Rockies

After getting off to an 8-3 start, the Rockies are 15-10 following a 9-7 win over the Washington Nationals on a getaway day Thursday in Denver. They’re just two games back of the NL West-leading Los Angeles Dodgers. Star left fielder Kris Bryant has a lower back strain and while he’s eligible to come off the injured list on Friday, that could be delayed. First baseman CJ Cron has been one of the majors’ top home run hitters, with nine and a 1,033 OPS entering Friday. The Rockies led the majors in team batting average through 25 games, .263. As a pitching staff, their team ERA was toward the bottom of the majors at 4.56 last season, the Diamondbacks went 7-3 at home against the Rockies and 9-10 overall. Starting pitcher Germån Marquez, scheduled to pitch in the Arizona series, is struggling this season after an All-Star campaign in 2021 and hasn’t been the same pitcher since the first half of last season.
