The Arizona Department of Transportation advises drivers to schedule a daytime closure of the Leupp Bridge on Interstate 40 on Tuesday, September 28, as remedial work on the bridge continues.

The Leupp Bridge is located approximately 50 miles east of Flagstaff, at the intersection of I-40 and Leupp Road (State Route 99).

Drivers should be prepared to stop and drive with caution through the work area and watch out for construction personnel while the following restrictions apply:

  • The Leupp Bridge over I-40 and the eastern I-40 up and down to Leupp Road will be closed from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Bridge traffic will use the next available exits on I-40.
    • Detour from east I-40 to Leupp Road northbound: Exit on Hipkoe Drive, then back onto the freeway heading west and exit on Leupp Road.
    • Detour from southern Leupp Road on I-40 eastbound: Travel west on I-40, take the Meteor City Road exit, then return to the freeway heading east.

The bridge project is part of a $ 275 million investment ADOT has made in the I-40 corridor over the past five years. This includes improvements to 90 miles of roadway and 35 bridges.
