Police identified the 18-year-old who was hit by a vehicle in Yuma

The police are still looking for the suspect who escaped from the scene

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) – One 18-year-old is dead and another is hospitalized with serious injuries after police said they were hit by a vehicle early Wednesday morning.

Police identify the 18-year-old as Alan Cunningham.

The Yuma Police Department said it had received reports of a collision with injuries in the 1900 block of W. 32nd Street around 1:30 a.m. near 15th Avenue. Police say the vehicle that hit the cyclists fled the scene and headed east on 32nd Street. They suspect the vehicle is a silver 2011-2013 Chrysler 200. The vehicle should have more front damage to the defective driver’s side headlight, including the grille and headlight area.

“They were riding their bikes east on 32nd Street when they were hit by a vehicle from behind. Two of the cyclists were hit, 18-year-old and one of 16-year-old. They were transported to Yuma Regional Medical Center The 18-year-old was pronounced dead in the hospital this morning, “says Sgt. Yuma Police Department. Lori Franklin.

The 16-year-old was later flown to a Phoenix hospital with serious injuries. Investigations revealed that the vehicle was also heading east and hit the two people from behind. The third teenager at the scene of the incident is unharmed.

Many in the community offered condolences to the victims and their families on social media during this difficult time.
