Priscilla Trout Hood Nagle – Turlock Journal

Priscilla Nagle, beloved wife and mother, died in Chico, California, on January 5, 2022. She was 85 years old.

Priscilla was born in 1936 in Roswell, New Mexico, to parents Maurice and Mary Trout. When she was a teenager her family moved to Plainview, Texas, where she played the bells in the Plainview High School Band. She was also an excellent piano and organ player, and was much in demand for recitals.

She moved back to Roswell to finish high school, where she continued to play the bells, the piano, and the organ, and acted in several plays. She then left to attend Christian Female College (now Columbia College) in Missouri, which her mother had also attended.

After working in the aerospace industry for several years, including assisting with the medical testing of the Apollo astronauts, she and her husband Bruce Hood moved to San Francisco so that Bruce could attend graduate school. They lived in Turlock, California, from 1968 to 1975. Priscilla graduated from Stanislaus State College in Turlock in 1972 with a BS Degree in Biology. She later moved to Southern California, which is where she met her second husband Frank Nagle.

In 1987, with her new husband Frank, Priscilla purchased and moved to an undeveloped 45 acres in the country 14 miles outside of Snowflake, Arizona, and 6 miles from a paved road. She and her husband initially lived in a small trailer on the land and did not have phone service or any electricity except for what they were able to generate. Frank was hired in the purchasing department of Navajo County, and Priscilla taught as a substitute teacher. She loved her land and even continued to live there for three years after Frank died in late 2014, when she moved to Chico, California, to be nearer to family.

Priscilla was a warm, loving person who always saw the good in others. She had numerous friends and was beloved by all who knew her. She loved to write, and was a published short-story writer. She also taught square dancing, designed jewelry, and created sculptures. She loved nature and believed in the oneness of the Universe, and she passed that love on to her children and grandchildren. Priscilla’s husband Frank Nagle and daughter Christy Hood predeceased her. She is survived by her sons Bill Hudgins, David Hood and wife Joanne Hood, Paul Hood and partner Sheryl Karas, and her grandsons Jonathan Hood, Hank Hudgins and Grady Hudgins, her granddaughter Eliana Hood, stepchildren Carl, Paul, Annie and Peter Nagle, and their grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
