Protesters in Phoenix demonstrate against mask requirements for health service providers | Coronavirus in Arizona
Hundreds of hospital workers showed up at the state capitol Wednesday to protest against two of the largest healthcare providers in Arizona who are mandating a vaccination.
PHOENIX (3TV / CBS 5) – On Wednesday, several hundred people gathered at the state capitol in Phoenix to protest the masking requirements imposed by two of the state’s largest health care providers. Many of them were hospital workers, the protesters carried signs with slogans such as “My body, my choice” and “I am not a test”.
Both Banner Health and HonorHealth recently announced that their employees will need to be fully vaccinated by November or may lose their jobs. These announcements came as COVID-19 continues to spread, influenced by the rise of several variants that increase the severity and transmittability of this infection.
Pfizer data suggests that the third dose of the COVID-19 vaccine “greatly” increases protection against the Delta variant
It does not appear that Bannner is stepping back on his decision and issuing a press release that reads in part, “Banner’s employee vaccination requirements are just one more way to demonstrate our commitment to safety.”
Hundreds came to the protest.
Those who remain unvaccinated appear to be most susceptible to the Delta variant of the virus, which is fueling the recent surge in confirmed cases.
Currently, 51% of the state’s population has received at least one dose of the vaccine.
