Queen Creek Unified parents are creating a Facebook page to monitor COVID-19 in the district

Some parents in the Queen Creek Unified School District are demanding transparency over COVID-19 information from the district and have created their own Facebook account for the time being to share the information.

Parents in the Queen Creek Unified School District take matters into their own hands when it comes to life COVID-19 by creating a social media page with virus numbers within the district.

Parents want transparency from the district when it comes to cases. They held a public school board meeting on Tuesday.

COVID-19 was not on the agenda, but some parents at the meeting raised it.

“I’m only here to ask a question. Why did this board choose not to share COVID statistics? ”Asked parents Mark Linder at the board meeting on August 10th.

Together with other parents, he started a Facebook page to find out about possible COVID-19 cases in the district and said the district itself had not informed them.

“Do you want to know what’s going on? The district must acknowledge that the COVID numbers are rising again quickly. The district does not have a containment plan. They have one that they supposedly have from last year, but they are “not a response to what they did last year. There is no classroom cleaning, none of the special considerations they had last year are actually happening this year.

While other districts have dashboards to track cases, Queen Creek no longer has it as of Tuesday.

Linder says it makes it difficult for parents to decide whether to send their children to school or keep them at home.

They also wonder whether or not to mask their children.

“We just want the district to be transparent about what’s going on. We have members who have family members who are elderly family members who have illnesses so we want to know what is going on in schools so we can make good decisions. Said Linder.

In a statement, the district said it has used common sense in dealing with the virus. Online courses are available for parents who wish to take an extra safety measure.

In response to the cleaning claim, the district says it is sanitizing and disinfecting the school buildings on a daily basis and increasing air circulation in the buildings.

“For families who do not feel comfortable with personal learning, we offer an online learning solution for students in grades K-12. Parents can enroll their children in the Queen Creek Virtual Academy at any time.

We disinfect and disinfect our school and district buildings every day, and hand disinfection stations can be found on our entire campus. More fresh air flows into all of our buildings; And if the weather permits, we transform the outside areas of our campus into study rooms.

After all, we always emphasize the importance of families screening their children for symptoms of illness before sending them to school. We also encourage our students to practice healthy hygiene habits and stay at home in the event of illness. There are signs in all of our buildings to support these efforts.

If there is a positive COVID case in QCUSD, the positive case and the identified close contacts will be reported to the Maricopa District Ministry of Health. Anyone identified as a close contact will receive a notification from the school / department. “
