School campaign to distribute 1,000 backpacks to children in Yuma this weekend

The annual takeover at the Kuttyz school takes place on Saturday, July 24th

YUMA, Arizona – (CBS 13) – The fourth annual Kuttyz Back-To-School Take-Over is held on Saturday, July 24th at the Joe Henry Optimus Center from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and the goal is to get 1,000 backpacks for distribute students in need.

The free Saturday event features live music, raffles, prizes and school supplies for students, family, friends and educators.

“This is another year that is very special because it is a year after the pandemic. They know that a lot of people get help, ”said the organizer and local artist Alex Osuna. “We can provide another 1,000 backpacks.”

School supplies that have not been picked up will be donated to the surrounding schools. Last year they donated dozens of backpacks and accessories to Gary Knox Elementary and Orange Grove Elementary.

The organizers have also put together a three-on-three family basketball tournament. The event takes place in the gym.
