Second alarm bushfire burned 40 hectares along SR 51 and Loop 101

A second bush fire alarm burned 40 hectares and set off the afternoon Closure of the transition ramp from State Route 51 to Loop 101 north of Phoenix on Friday, according to the Phoenix Fire Department.

According to the Arizona Department of Transportation, the ramp was open again by Friday evening.

The Phoenix Fire Department headed to a reported bushfire near 39th Street and East Kristal Way at around 2 p.m., the fire department said.

The fire spread quickly along the canal bank and turned into a second alarm fire when the Ministry of Transport announced that the ramp in a northerly direction from SR 51 to Loop 101 would be closed.

A number of agencies and departments supported containment and logistics, including the Phoenix, Glendale, Scottsdale, and Peoria Fire Services, as well as the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management, the Central Arizona Project, the Arizona Department of Public Safety, ADOT, and the Phoenix Police Department.

Several firefighters were on site without injuring or damaging people.
