Senator Mark Kelly in Yuma: Border Situation ‘A Humanitarian Crisis’

Democratic US Senator Mark Kelly was in Yuma on Monday to meet with representatives from the US Border Guard Yuma sector.

Senator Mark Kelly on whether the US-Mexico border situation is in crisis.

Senator Kelly said he saw migrant children being handled by border guards. He said what is happening at the border is a crisis, but not a public safety crisis, as many on the right have said.

“I’d say it’s a crisis,” Kelly told reporters. It is a humanitarian crisis and it is tragic to see young children at great risk of reaching our border. “

Senator Kelly said it was up to elected officials in Washington to address the root causes of migration, and it shouldn’t be a challenge for border communities like San Luis, Arizona, Somerton and Yuma.

Kelly also visited local leaders regarding COVID-19 relief funding as well as the Yuma Proving Site and Marine Corps Air Station Yuma during his visit on Monday.
