Services for Phoenix officer who died in a crash

PHOENIX (AP) – Worship services will be held this week for a Phoenix police officer who died in a collision on duty last week, police said Tuesday.

Officer Ginarro New’s visit will be at Hansen’s Morgue from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, followed by a funeral at Dream City Church on Thursday at 9 a.m.

After the service, a solemn ceremony with police honors takes place in the churchyard.

New, 27, died on the night of May 31 after his police SUV collided with a car at an intersection that police said had run over a red light.

The driver of the car was identified by police as 31-year-old Christopher Castro.

According to the police, speed and impairment should have contributed to the accident.

New joined the department in July 2019.

He leaves behind his wife, mother, brother and grandmother.
