Stranded migrant rescued from mountaintop southwest of Tucson
TUCSON (KVOA) – A migrant was rescued by members of U.S. Customs and Border Protection after being stranded on a mountaintop southwest of Tucson on Monday.
CBP reported that members of the Tucson Sector Border Patrol Search Trauma and Rescue Team responded to the emergency call made by a 24-year-old Guatemalan in the Baboquivari Mountains. There agents located the man near Baboquivari Summit.
Due to the impassable terrain, the members had to perform a hoist suction with a helicopter.
According to a press release, an air and naval agent was hoisted to the whereabouts of the 24-year-old. The migrant and all agents were hoisted back to the helicopter.
The migrant was then placed in a temporary immigration processing facility.
